While there are many outfitters around, the first and last name in the Land Rover customization business is Overfinch. The aftermarket outfitter has been in the business of modifying Land Rovers for 40 years now. To mark the occasion, it has launched a new special edition Defender. Setting the 40th anniversary special apart are features like contrasting hood and grille, SVX-spec front bumper with integrated LED lighting, and black satin-finish diamond-plated side sills and rear quarter panels. It also includes door handles and fuel cap machined from aluminum, a swing arm spare wheel bracket, rear step, electric tow bar, and 18-inch gloss-black, diamond-turned alloys. Inside it's all done up in two-tone leather with Recaro buckets, fold-away rear seats, machined pedals, and a full electronics system with Alpine sat-nav, digital radio, and reversing camera. The result is easily one of the most beautiful and compelling Landies we've seen to date. Shame Overfinch will only make five examples of this limited edition, and each will be priced at over £70,000. That's over $100k at current exchange rates, or roughly three times the list price for a stock LR Defender. Or to put it in other terms, it's about the price of entry for a flagship Range Rover. That may seem like quite an asking price for a luxed-up Defender, but considering that Overfinch has been crafting custom Land Rovers for customers since 1975, we're sure it has every confidence that it will sell all five, no matter the price. |
