Tesla founder Elon Musk has sent out a tweet that's sure to send the crowds lining up to place an order on the new Model 3 into a tizzy. Online orders for the company's latest long-range EV will open at 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time (that's 10:30 p.m. on the other coast), to "ensure no server overload." That's an hour before we'll even know what the Model 3 looks like, let alone what it costs, how powerful it is, how far it can go on a charge, or indeed how long it will take to top off the battery. It's also an hour earlier than orders were originally meant to open, after Tesla has experienced unexpectedly rabid enthusiasm for the as-yet-unreleased Model 3. Reports have been nearly constant about people lining up and camping out – Apple iPhone-style – at Tesla showrooms around the world, which is likely motivating the adjustment. |
