The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

The Basics: Volkswagen will recall 91,000 examples of the 2012-2014 Passat with the TDI engine.
The Problem: Improperly assembled wire seals on the connector for an underbody sensor can allow water in and cause the part to corrode. In rare instances, the component could overheat and cause a fire underneath the Passat. The malfunction indicator light would illuminate if there were a problem. This recall has nothing to do with the diesel emissions scandal.
Injuries/Deaths: None reported.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the connector and replace it as necessary.
If you own one: Volkswagen hasn't yet told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration when this recall would begin.
