The Basics: Ford is recalling 37,066 examples of the 2015-16 Transit van over an issue with the side curtain airbags – specifically those manufactured between March 12, 2014, and March 18, 2016, in vehicles ordered with low roofs. The Problem: Due to an error in the assembly process at the TRW facility in Mexico, some vehicles may have had their side curtain airbags incorrectly packed, which could cause them to deploy incorrectly in the event of a side collision or rollover. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The fix: Dealers are being instructed to inspect and, where necessary, reorient the side curtain airbag assembly. The recall campaign is slated to commence on May 16. If you own one: Consider parking your van until the issue is resolved. Ford has issued a stop-sale on those units still in inventory, and instructed dealers not to demonstrate those affected vehicles before the airbags are fixes. |
